Why Summer School?
Edison High School has a long tradition of excellent instruction and student success. Our Middle School Summer Program (Summer Program) puts the same proven practices to work. Our goal is to help middle school students with learning differences reach their full potential. Over the long summer vacation, these students can lose the skills they were developing just as the school year ended. Our Summer Program helps maintain academic momentum, giving kids a "running start" into the next school year. We receive overwhelming positive feedback about the Summer Program from parents and students year after year, noting that it consistently produces students who are happier and more successful entering school in the fall.
Who Does the Program Serve?
The program is open to any student with learning differences or who struggles in school entering 6th -9th grade the following fall.
Schedule & Classes
MORNING CLASSES
In the morning, our "classic" academic summer school program reinforces basic skills, while encouraging the higher-order thinking demanded in high school. Grouped in small classes, students are supported and encouraged by qualified and experienced teachers in a safe environment. Students choose two classes from among the three offered: reading, writing and math.
AFTERNOON ENRICHMENT CLASSES
Available to morning students, our afternoon enrichment program (12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.) allows students to explore "passion projects" with our Edison High School staff on a week-to-week basis. These classes promise to spark new interests in any learner. This year our class themes include:
- ART IN NATURE - Week 1: June 26-30
- MAKING THE WORLD BETTER - Week 2: July 3-7 (Four day week)
- ENGINEERING & DESIGN - Week 3: July 10-14
- KITCHEN CREATIONS - Week 4: July 17-21
- LIFETIME SPORTS - Week 5: July 24-28

"My student's progress in your summer school program improved her writing and reading skills. Your reading teacher helped me by modeling truly motivating compliments. She kept saying, 'Your daughter works really, really hard!' My student was nearly in tears with gratitude for having someone take notice of her. What a watershed time last summer was!"
