Edison High School empowers students with learning differences to experience academic success and personal growth, while preparing them for a productive future.

Student Profile

Edison High School is open to students who have learning differences such as Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Tourette Syndrome, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Visual Perception and Nonverbal Learning Disorders. Students are referred by parents, schools, counselors, tutors and medical professionals. Each student and family is interviewed prior to admission and evaluated by staff to ensure a good fit.

Educational Approach & Student:Teacher Ratio

Edison's curriculum prepares students for graduation and beyond. Classes average nine students, allowing teachers to become familiar with each student's learning abilities and learning challenges, and to individualize instruction within a classroom setting. The strong bonds that form between staff and students are a hallmark of our school; these relationships encourage and steer academic and personal success. Edison High School is accredited through AdvancED (formerly Northwest Association of Accredited Schools).

Relationship With Jesuit High School

Edison High School is located on the campus of Jesuit High School. Though an independent school, there is a collaborative relationship between the two schools. Edison students attend classes at Jesuit and Jesuit students take classes at Edison.

What is a hybrid student?

The hybrid student program allows the two schools to work collaboratively to best suit the needs each student. In addition to shared coursework, many Edison students participate in the sports, theater, music, and other extracurricular activities offered by Jesuit.

During the 2020-2021 school year, 33 Edison students enrolled in 54 sections at Jesuit and 58 Jesuit students enrolled in 82 sections at Edison. This program allows Jesuit students to benefit from the smaller class size and specialized instruction and allows Edison students a wider range of coursework.

School Environment

Everything we do at Edison is possible because of the cooperative, supportive partnerships among parents, students and staff. More than a school community, our common purpose unites us into the "Edison village." It is gratifying to see the changes that occur within families of students as a result of the environment. As students accept responsibility for their own learning, parents are relieved to find that they can simply "be parents" again —able to enjoy their kids and focus on their special qualities.

Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Class Schedule:

  • Monday 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (8th period from 3:05-3:45 p.m.)
  • Tuesday, 8:55 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. (8th period during flex; no 8th period after school)
  • Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (8th period from 3:05-3:45 p.m.)
  • Thursday, 8:55 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (8th period from 3:05-3:45 p.m.)
  • Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. (no 8th period after school)

Edison's daily schedule has a unique feature built right in: eighth period. Available four times per week, eighth period is a chance for every student to visit teachers in their classrooms to get some extra help.

Staff

Edison's staff includes over seventeen teachers; four counselors, including two Licensed Professional Counselors and a Licensed School Counselor, as well as a Learning and Reading Specialist most with master's degrees; one transition specialist; and administrative and development staff.

Parent Involvement

Edison's success is built on an effective partnership with parents. Communication with parents is fostered through weekly mailings and frequent phone calls. Parents are expected to assist the school in a volunteer capacity.

Tuition

Tuition for the 2022-23 school year is $26,660.

Student Results

Edison is a four-year, full-service high school program with a strong record of academic success. The vast majority of our students receive their high school diplomas and most Edison students continue their education beyond a high school diploma. About one-third of our graduates go on to a four-year college, while two-thirds of students attend a two-year institution, enter the workforce or work while continuing post-graduate education. All students who earn their diplomas from Edison receive career awareness and guidance through our transitions program.

Funding

Edison High School's funding come from tuition, private gifts and grants. In addition, the proceeds from two annual fundraisers, the Edison Breakfast held in November and the Brilliance Auction held in March each year, flow to financial aid to support families in need.

Our Inspiration

Our school is named in honor of the famed American. As a dyslexic, Thomas Edison struggled greatly in school. His mind often wandered, he talked when he was supposed to be listening, and he paid little attention to detail. The schoolmaster considered Edison such a poor student that he advised Edison's mother to take him out of school altogether, "for he would never make a scholar."

Of course, Edison proved everyone wrong. And while not every child with learning differences will attain such notability as an adult, his achievements serve as our daily inspiration. Just as he transformed the way we live, Edison High School works to transform the lives of our students.
